Casino staff petition govt over Wynn ‘tolerating’ illegal smoking

Several Wynn Macau casino workers, accompanied by lawmakers-cum-unionists Ella Lei Cheng I and Leong Sun Iok as well as members of the Macau Gaming Enterprises Staff Association (MGESA), yesterday petitioned Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On, urging the government to ensure that gaming operators always strictly obey the anti-smoking law and, consequently, always ensure that gamblers do not smoke in no-smoking areas on their premises.

The association is an affiliate of the Macau Federation of Trade Unions (commonly known as Gung Luen in Cantonese), of which Lei and Leong are board members.

The petitioners slammed Wynn Macau for allegedly “tolerating” gamblers smoking in no-smoking areas. They also urged the government to announce details about the officially-approved smoking lounges and smoking areas in the gaming areas of the city’s six gaming operators, so that members of the public can know in which areas in casinos customers are allowed to smoke.
