Chief executive candidate Ho Iat Seng said yesterday he was “heartbroken” seeing protestors in Hong Kong brandishing UK and US flags, adding that the ongoing violent protests in the special administrative region may also be due to the “insufficiency and deficiency” of its national education.

Ho, 62, also said that Macau should have a “pilot base” for patriotic education so that young local people would know more about the nation’s modern history.

Ho attended a Q&A session with representatives from the city’s social services sector yesterday afternoon. The seminar at the private Kiang Wu Hospital was attended by 400 representatives from 70 local social service organisations and other community associations.
