The total value of retail sales in Macau decreased by 41.5 percent year-on-year to 45.19 billion patacas last year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced.
According to a DSEC statement this week, sales of timepieces and jewellery (7.27 billion patacas), adults' clothing (4.16 billion patacas), and cosmetics and sanitary articles (1.69 billion patacas) declined by 54.1 percent, 53.3 percent and 52.2 percent year-on-year respectively, while supermarket sales (5.15 billion patacas) grew by 4.1 percent.
The statement pointed out that the retail sector continued to enjoy an upturn in the fourth quarter of last year, with the value of sales surging by 102.5 percent quarter-to-quarter to 18.16 billion patacas.
