The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) said in a statement yesterday that it has moved the two cannons found at Galaxy Macau’s construction site in Cotai on Monday to storage in a museum for further studies and analysis.
The statement did not identify the museum.
According to the statement, the bureau has completed a detailed analysis of the environment where the canons were found and the condition they are in. The statement noted that the first cannon is 1.08 metres long with a calibre of 60 millimetres, while the second cannon is 1.3 metres long with a calibre of 60 millimetres, adding that both were covered by what appeared to wood.
The bureau said that it did not find any other historical items around the area, adding that the two cannons were relocated to the warehouse for further study, protection and analysis. The statement pointed out that work on the construction site resumed yesterday.
An old cannon was found in April 2020 at a construction site near the Pak Kong car park in Avenida de Demétrio Cinatti in the Inner Harbour area, while another cannon was found at the same Galaxy Macau construction site in November. The bureau said the cannons were being restored and studied, adding that when the research is completed, the cannons will go on public display.
