A mainland man was arrested on Tuesday for sexually harassing a female hotel housekeeper earlier that day, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Choi Iok Kin said at a regular press conference yesterday.

The 58-year-old jobless suspect surnamed Liu holds an Exit-Entry Permit for Travelling to and from Hong Kong and Macau, colloquially known as a Two-way Permit. The female victim is a 40-year-old non-resident worker.

According to Choi, the security department of a hotel in Cotai reported to the Public Security Police on Tuesday afternoon that a female housekeeper had been sexually harassed by a male guest while cleaning his room earlier that day.

The hotel staff told the police that the housekeeper entered the room to clean with Liu’s consent. At that time Liu was in the living room while the housekeeper was cleaning the bathroom. Liu then suddenly wrapped his arms around the victim from behind and touched her breasts. The victim got scared and ran away, after which she immediately informed her colleagues about the incident. The hotel’s security department then notified the police, according to Choi.

Choi said the Public Security Police arrested Liu in the hotel lobby. He admitted to sexually harassing the victim. He claimed that he could not control himself when he saw her while she was cleaning.

Liu was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) on Tuesday, facing a sexual harassment charge, according to Choi.
