Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng’s working visit to Hainan has bolstered cooperation between the two places, the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS) said in a statement yesterday.
Ho attended on Tuesday the opening ceremony of the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2021, where he listened to a keynote speech delivered by President Xi Jinping via video link.
Ho led a Macau delegation to Hainan’s Qionghai on Monday and Tuesday. During his two-day visit to the island province, he met with senior officials of the province and of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, the statement noted.
In a meeting with the secretary of the Hainan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Shen Xiaoming, the two sides discussed how to bolster bilateral ties in economic and trade matters, tourism, developments related to high and new technology, financial services, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and the cultivation of talents in order to support economic development, the statement said.
Ho also met with Hainan Governor Feng Fei. They shared insights on how to press ahead on cooperation between Macau and Hainan concerning environmental protection and human resources, the statement pointed out.
According to the statement, Ho also had a meeting with the chairman of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, Hao Peng. Both exchanged views on cooperation in the areas of healthcare services, innovative financial services, the science and technology sector, and cultural industries.
After the opening ceremony of the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2021 on Tuesday morning, Ho, along with the vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Edmund Ho Hau Wah, attended a luncheon with representatives of a delegation of Macau businesspeople. Edmund Ho was Macau’s chief executive between 1999 and 2009.
Later in the day, Ho Iat Seng, accompanied by local officials, visited the Mova Mall duty-free complex in Haikou to be briefed on its latest progress and prospects. He took note of the complex’s success story as a reference for Macau’s economic diversification drive, the statement said.
During the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2021, Secretary for Economy and Finance Lei Wai Nong, attended the “Macau-Zhuhai Global Investment Promotion Luncheon” and a session entitled “Invigorate Development through Vibrant City Clusters: The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area as a Model”, the statement said.
Ho’s delegation returned to Macau on Tuesday evening.
