An underground tap water pipe burst in a section of Estrada de Coelho do Amaral at around midday yesterday, causing the temporary suspension of water supply to some households in the neighbourhood.

The burst occurred in the section near Chok Lam Temple, which is located near Avenida de Horta e Costa.

Macao Water said yesterday that the burst was possibly due to the ageing of the pipe.

The burst water pipe resulted in minor flooding in the section which was covered with water and mud.

The outflow of water from the burst pipe lasted around half an hour until Macao Water workers arrived at the scene and switched off the relevant water valve to stop the flow.

Police officers and firemen went to the scene to handle the situation while the affected section of Estrada de Coelho do Amaral was temporarily closed to traffic.

Workers of the government’s outsourced cleaning company, Macau Residue System Company (CSR), went to the scene to clean up the area and remove the mud, before the section was reopened to traffic.
