The Municipal Affair Bureau (IAM) said in a statement on Sunday that all frozen goods imported from South Africa must be inspected thoroughly.
According to the statement, there have been 10 orders of frozen goods from South Africa that have entered Macau since January. The statement noted that the last order was 100 kg of frozen fish fillets in June, adding that the order was completely disinfected and the goods were inspected. The statement underlined that the order’s nucleic acid test (NAT) result was presented as negative.
The statement said that the bureau has been dealing with COVID-19 prevention and control measures on frozen goods since November last year. The statement pointed out that each week the bureau disinfects about 70,000 boxes of frozen goods, while each day it collects 250 environment and food samples. The statement noted that over 53,000 samples were collected and all had a negative NAT result.
The statement also said since August, Macau’s 3,300 workers in the frozen goods industry must undergo an NAT every seven days and present a negative Macau Health Code. The statement underlined that if any worker violates the regulation, the bureau will suspend his or her company’s frozen imports application or operation.
