A joint-exhibition entitled “Embrace of Diversity” (擁抱多元), which is part of the ongoing 3rd “Annual Arts Exhibition between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries” (中葡藝術年展), is being held at the Macau Contemporary Art Centre – Navy Yard No.1 (澳門當代藝術中心•海事工房1號) until December 31.
The event is hosted by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) in conjunction with the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO).
According to the organisers’ statement, the exhibition consists of 17 artists from Portuguese-speaking countries and regions presenting 36 pieces/sets of contemporary art which used various mediums such as paintings, installations, photographs, sculptures and videos.
The statement underlined that the exhibition aims to showcase the cutting-edge development of contemporary art in Portuguese-speaking countries and regions through different perspectives.
According to a statement by curators Karena Lao, Leonor Veiga and Cecile Bourne-Farrell, the exhibition merges the elements of singularity and plurality such as the artistic approach by Angolan artists Keyezua and Ana Silva, who advance a feminist agenda. Moreover, Keyezua shows the position of African women in today’s society through art. The statement also says that other artists such as Sarah Ferreira, Diogo Muñoz and Isabel Nunes “convey an imagined world where fantasy reigns”.
The gallery is open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. including public holidays. It is located in Rua de S. Tiago da Barra. Admission is free.
As part of the government’s COVID-19 prevention measures, visitors need to wear a facemask, have their temperature checked and present a digital health code when entering the gallery.
