The Macau Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) said in a statement yesterday that its “Global Centre of Tourism Education and Training” hosted a second training programme with the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) earlier this month.
According to the statement, the online training programme consisted of three webinars with the theme of “Solutions for Sustainable Tourism Development and Destination Branding in Times of Crisis and Beyond”, adding that “Sustainable Tourism Development, Strategic/Destination Marketing and Destination Branding” were the main focus of the programme.
The statement underlined that the training programme was created for “decision makers from UNWTO member state ministries and administrations of ASEAN countries”. Participants from the Greater Bay Area (GBA) also joined the programme.
The statement added that 20 participants from the UNWTO nominated six-member states, which are Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar and Vietnam, as well as two places from the GBA took part in the programme. The statement did not identify the two GBA participants.
A number of the tertiary education institution’s scholars, as well as industry professionals, delivered presentations on various topics related to the programme’s agenda.
Set-up in 2016, the centre was created after the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the government and the Madrid-based UNWTO, featuring topics like “the promotion of sustainable tourism in the Asia-Pacific region”, the statement noted. The centre has hosted more than 36 programmes with nearly 524 participants from 35 countries and regions involved in its training activities.
