The newly appointed president of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), Leong Wai Man, and the newly appointed director of the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ), Kong Chi Meng, were formally sworn in by Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Elsie Ao Ieong U during a ceremony on Friday.
Both appointments took effect on Tuesday last week.
Leong, who had been a vice-president of the Cultural Affairs Bureau before her new job, has succeeded Mok Ian Ian who became the president of the Macau Science Centre (MSC) last month.
Kong, who had been a deputy director of the Education and Youth Development Bureau before his new appointment, has succeeded Lou Pak Sang who has returned to work as a public school teacher.
Speaking to reporters after having been sworn in at Government Headquarters, Leong pledged that she will unite all staff members of her bureau to ensure that all its important tasks planned for this year will be carried out, such as the revitalisation and partial opening of the former Iec Long Firecracker Factory site in Taipa and Lai Chi Vun shipyards area in Coloane, and a virtual reality (VR) project for the Ruins of St. Paul’s landmark.
Leong said that in the future residents and visitors can have a simulated experience about how the St. Paul’s College and St. Paul’s Church were in the past.
Leong also said that her bureau will continue to organise its annual branded arts and musical events, but their respective arrangements will be subject to the latest developments in the COVID-19 situations in Macau and in neighbouring regions.
Also speaking to reporters after having been sworn in, Kong pledged that his bureau will strengthen its supervision of the use of various education funds granted to local schools by making use of more advanced digital and electronic tools.
Kong also said that his bureau will continue its process to rectify certain irregularities, which were revealed by a report by the Commission Against Corruption (CCAC) in December, concerning the granting of his bureau’s education funds to local schools.
