The Ox Warehouse (牛房倉庫) has opened an art exhibition titled ‘VISIBILITY – Perception in a Specific Location’, featuring works by Chengdu artist Chen Weicai.
The exhibition is hosted by the Ox Warehouse, sponsored by the Macau Foundation (FM), and it is jointly curated by Cai Guojie and Ox Warehouse President Ng Fong Chao.
According to an Ox Warehouse statement, in the past year it has been working with the Chongqing Dimensions Art Centre and has signed a memorandum of cooperation, hoping to develop a dialogue about art between the two places and to facilitate cultural development through an artist exchange programme. The statement said that the Ox Warehouse would continue to develop a “cross-field, cross-discipline, cross-media and multi-regional” platform for diversified cultural exchanges.
Cai said in the statement that exhibitions are a medium between artists and the public. Chen also said in the statement that “my logic is starting from the materials and then I wander into a specific situation to look for the materials (tangible/intangible).”
Chen pointed out in the statement that he rarely hears the sound of police sirens in the suburbs of Chengdu, but he often had this type of experience during his stay in Macau, adding that he would stop everything and just stave when he heard the sirens during his one-week stay in Macau.
However, the siren experience inspired him to create “When the Siren Goes Off”.
The exhibition is taking place at Mong-Ha Villas (望廈山房), 55-69 Avenida do Coronel Mesquita (美副将大马路) and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free of charge. The exhibition will run until Easter Monday.
Visitors are required to wear a facemask, display a valid Macau Health Code and have their temperature checked when entering the venue.
