The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) announced in a statement yesterday that no abnormalities were found during the re-tests of cold-chain meat products imported from Brazil.

The statement noted that the General Administration of Customs in Beijing announced yesterday that the packaging of frozen meat products imported from meat product manufacturers in Brazil (registration numbers: SIF2015, SIF2058, SIF337 and SIF2543) had tested positive for COVID-19 during nucleic acid tests (NATs).

The bureau underlined that the contingency plans were launched immediately, while measures such as “source tracing, investigation and re-tests” for the involved manufacturer’s products were adopted.

Local businesses were asked to seal the products from the manufacturers immediately and samples have also been collected for re-tests, which showed no abnormalities, according to the statement. Import applications have also been suspended by IAM for the manufacturers’ products.

Samples of frozen meat products imported from Brazil and their inner and outer packaging, the statement pointed out, have undergone NATs multiple times with no positive results for the virus since 2020.

Disinfection and sample testing of products imported from the country have also been carried out in line with COVID-19 pandemic prevention measures over the past three months, with the statement adding that only products that have passed inspections can enter the city.

Moreover, the statement emphasised that the bureau “has continuously adopted prevention and regulation measures on imported cold-chain food products, and has formulated contingency plans corresponding to the risks”.
