A statement from the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) said yesterday that its teachers and staff took part in the “Casual Summer Wear” and “One-Hour Lights-off” initiatives to contribute to energy conservation, waste reduction, and environmental protection, as part of the “Macao Energy Conservation Week” campaign.
The campaign is organised by the Office for Development of the Energy Sector, with the private university being one of the co-organisers.
In response to the “Casual Summer Wear” campaign and in order to support energy conservation, the statement said that the university’s deans and staff posed for a photo with Vice Chancellor-cum-President Joseph Lee Hun-wei, Vice President Tong Ka Lok and other vice-presidents wearing the university and faculty T-shirts. During the campaign’s period, the statement added, on campus air-conditioning will be set to no more than 25°C, while university staff can wear smart casual outfits to work.
Moreover, in line with environmental protection concepts, the university started work on Macau’s “largest-scale solar-energy car park roofing” in 2018, adding that it was expected to generate “380,000 kilowatt hours of clean environment-friendly electricity, equal to a reduction of 94 tonnes of carbon dioxide”, according to the statement.
The solar-energy car park roofing plan was completed by the end of last year, and the walkways have been covered with solar panels. The statement added that it is estimated to produce around “1.05 million kWh of clean environment-friendly electricity, equivalent to an emission reduction of 744 tonnes of carbon dioxide”.
This handout photo taken and provided by MUST yesterday shows the university’s deans and staff taking part in the “Casual Summer Wear” activity, led by Joseph Lee Hun-wei (centre) and the private university’s vice presidents.
