A local university student banned from driving was arrested for driving, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Wong Wai Chon said during a press conference yesterday.

The 24-year-old suspect surnamed Ng told the police that he’s a university student, Wong said.

According to Wong, on Friday at 11:30 p.m. police officers saw a car stop on the side of the road in front of a police roadblock in Avenida do Oceano in Taipa. Police officers went to the car and asked the driver, Ng, for his driving licence, Wong said, adding that Ng could not present the valid documents.

Wong said that the police officers then looked at Ng’s driving record and found that his driving licence was suspended until October due to an evasion-of-responsibility offence Ng committed in May. Under questioning, Ng admitted driving with a suspended licence because he needed to give his girlfriend a lift, Wong said.

Ng has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Officer (MP), facing an aggravated disobedience charge, Wong said, adding that Ng will also be fined for parking on a solid yellow line.
