A gym and fitness centre on the fourth floor of the AIA Tower in Nam Van caught fire at around midday yesterday, but did not cause any injuries, the Fire Services Bureau (CB) said in a statement.
However, a 34-year-old local woman who self-evacuated was taken to the private Kiang Wu Hospital for examination after she told paramedics that her side hurt.
According to the statement, it took firefighters a while to extinguish the fire, which erupted near a locker in the fitness centre.
About 500 people self-evacuated from the commercial high-rise during the fire.
The statement also said that a short circuit near the locker was the possible cause of the fire.
The fire-fighting operation resulted in traffic jams in and around the area for a while.
