Wynn Resorts (Macau) announced in a statement earlier this week that it has donated 80 million patacas to the University of Macau Development Foundation (UMDF), the donation being among the resort operator’s “most significant corporate social responsibility initiatives”.

According to the statement, the donation will support UM’s development in every aspect and its Asia-Pacific Academy of Economics and Management’s initiatives. The academy, the statement noted, highlights interdisciplinary cooperation and aims to promote interdisciplinary research that has significant implications for Macau and the Greater Bay Area’s (GBA) socio-economic development.

The statement said that the academy had achieved research results through the integration of professional knowledge from different colleges and faculties, with the research mainly focusing on three main areas: Asia-focused economics, financial innovation, and smart tourism.

During the cheque donation ceremony on Monday at Wynn Palace, Wynn Resorts (Macau) President and Executive Director-cum-Wynn Macau Vice Chairman and Executive Director Linda Chen Chih-ling and Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director of Wynn Macau Frederic Luvisutto presented the cheque. It was received by University Council Chair/Chair of the Trustees Committee of UMDF Peter Lam Kam Seng, and UM Rector/Vice Chair of the Executive Committee of UMDF Prof. Yonghua Song (aka Song Yonghua), the statement said.

The ceremony was also attended by various guests from Wynn and UM.

The statement underlined that Wynn has been committed to supporting the public university’s development through the foundation over the years in areas such as teaching and talent cultivation. Its efforts include “providing support for the academic and research initiatives of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Economics and Management, continuously pushing for Macau’s local teaching and research work, as well as strengthening the cultivation and development of local talent and professionals”, according to the statement.
