A local couple who repeatedly beat their seven-year-old son, causing him multiple injuries, have been ordered to report regularly to the police and are forbidden to contact the victim, the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) said in a statement on Wednesday, adding that the man and woman are also barred from entering their son’s school or his temporary place of residence.

The Macau Post Daily published a report on Monday about the case, which was announced by the Judiciary Police (PJ) last Friday.

According to the statement, the suspects had repeatedly punished their son over homework and discipline issues by beating him with various objects, resulting in bruises on many parts of his body, which were recently discovered by his teacher when the boy went to school last Thursday.

According to the statement, the victim’s parents are suspected of domestic violence, facing up to five years’ imprisonment. However, the statement stressed, in the case of aggravating circumstances both could be sentenced to up to 15 years behind bars, considering that the victim is aged under 14.

Due to the seriousnous of the case, and in order to protect the legal rights and interests of minors, the victim is currently under the care of the Social Welfare Bureau (IAS), the statement underlined.
