SJM Resorts said in a recent statement that it will be showcasing the artworks created by six “grand master” local artists together with eight young local artists through the “Celebration of Art & Culture - Artistic Lantern Festival” event at Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau and Grand Lisboa Hotel on the peninsula from this Thursday until October 31 with free admission.
The event, which is done in partnership with the Macau Artist Society and Macau Youth Art Association, is supported by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) and the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the statement noted. The nine artworks, according to the statement, will be exhibited at the Grand Lisboa Palace West Entrance and Jardim Secreto (“Secret Garden”), as well as in the Grand Lisboa Macau lobby to celebrate the recent Mid-Autumn Festival and upcoming National Day.
Moreover, the lantern installations also “celebrate Chinese art and traditions, showcase Macau’s cultural heritage, and promote cross-sector synergies between ‘tourism + arts and culture”, the statement said.
SJM Board of Directors Chairwoman Daisy Ho Chiu-fung was quoted in the statement as saying: “We are truly privileged to set the stage for this collaboration between six of Macau’s legendary artists and eight talented young artists. In addition to preserving the traditional art of lantern making, it is an excellent opportunity to showcase the multi-faceted talents we have in Macau”.
Ho was also quoted as saying that by “supporting local creative industries, SJM is dedicated to driving synergistic growth of Macau’s cultural and tourism developments, enhancing the city’s reputation as a UNESCO World Heritage centre, and driving economic diversification. This event will become a regular addition to our yearly calendar, through which SJM can celebrate with the community as well as provide a platform that contributes to fostering local talents.”
Moreover, the statement said that the event will also feature activities such as lantern-making workshops, interactive augmented reality (AR) games, and SJM team member-led educational lantern exhibition tours, with charity organisations and students invited to participate.
