The Macau Customs Service (SA) announced in an SMS yesterday that starting Sunday, Zhuhai will no longer limit the daily Macau-Zhuhai commute via certain checkpoints, so that travellers and commuters will no longer be subject to a limitation on the number of their commutes between the two cities per day.

Zhuhai authorities informed the Macau Customs Service in a statement yesterday about the change, which also thanked the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) for its cooperation, adding that no more notifications on the measure will be issued separately.

Zhuhai had extended the implementation of the measure several times since August 9 on a temporary basis, only allowing travellers in general to commute between Macau and Zhuhai once a day via Gongbei and Qingmao checkpoints, starting from February. The curbs on commuting between the two adjacent cities is slated to end at 11:59 p.m. this Sunday.

The current measure does not limit the number of travellers’ commutes between the two cities via the checkpoints of Hengqin and Wanzai, as well as the Zhuhai-Macau checkpoint of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HZMB).

The measure was initially rolled out for COVID-19 prevention and control, and the latest three-month extension was due to the ongoing renovations of part of the Gongbei checkpoint, according to the Zhuhai authorities.

According to a Radio Guangdong report yesterday, the Zhuhai authorities have sent the notification to the Macau Customs Service, and are currently in talks with Macau, the outcome of which will be announced in due course.
