Responding to a reporter’s enquiry about when an “e-ID” certificate on the government’s Macao One Account app will be put into operation, Public Security Police (PSP) Commissioner Ng Kam Wa said yesterday that the “e-ID” certificate system for crossing Macau’s border checkpoints was currently undergoing internal testing, adding he expected the “e-ID” function to take effect on June 30.
Ng also said that both the hardware and software for using the “e-ID” certificate have already been prepared, adding that the service will be launched for public testing in due course.
Details about the “e-ID” service on the Macao One Account will be announced in a joint press conference by various government entities, Ng said.
Once the “e-ID” service is launched, members of the public will not need to present their physical ID card when using certain public services, such as crossing Macau’s border checkpoints.
Secretary for Security Wong Sio Chak noted yesterday that the Public Security Police will contact relevant groups to organise volunteers to test the “e-ID” system, adding he believed that it was “more convenient and also sufficient” to collect opinions through group coordination.
Wong and Ng made the remarks during a press conference about Macau’s 2023 first-quarter crime statistics, at the S. Francisco Barracks.
Police probe 1,156 cases with help of citywide CCTV cameras: Wong
Meanwhile, according to Wong, the installation of the sixth phase of the police forces’ citywide CCTV surveillance system has been launched, which aims to deepen and extend the overall layout of the cameras throughout the city.
Wong said that 81 cameras were added during the fifth phase of the surveillance system installation, bringing the total number to 1,701, adding that for the time being, except for two cameras which need to be installed later this year in conjunction with road construction projects, the remaining cameras were already put into use in early March this year.
In the first quarter of this year, Wong noted, the surveillance system assisted the police in investigating 1,156 cases, including violent crimes such as robbery, homicide and arson, among other criminal cases.
