Macau’s visitor arrivals rose by 268.5 percent year on year to 2.21 million last month, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced yesterday.
The daily average of visitor arrivals in May stood at 71,413.
Month on month, visitor arrivals dropped by 2.6 percent.
Same-day visitors (1.12 million) and overnight visitors (1.08 million) leapt by 213.4 percent and 350.2 percent year on year respectively.
Overnight visitors stayed for an average of 2.2 days, up by 0.1 day year on year.
Mainlanders accounted for 66.5 percent of all visitor arrivals, reaching 1.47 million, a year-on-year increase of 173.8 percent. Visitors from Hong Kong (601,991) and Taiwan (31,537) soared by 962.4 percent and 473.7 percent year on year respectively.
Some 78.7 percent of all visitors arrived by land. Visitor arrivals by air rocketed by 3,877.7 percent to 158,192 in May.
In the first five months, visitor arrivals rose by 205.9 percent to 9.43 million.
