CEM Customer Liaison Committee President Vong Kok Seng said yesterday that Macau’s electricity consumption rose around 6.6 percent year on year in the first six months of this year, i.e., between January 1 and this week.
Vong made the remarks while speaking to reporters after a regular meeting of the utility’s Customer Liaison Committee at the Sands Macao casino-hotel in Nape.
The Customer Liaison Committee is the public utility’s consultative body that holds regular meetings where CEM executives gather opinions and suggestions from representatives from various segments of civil society.
Vong, who heads the power utility’s consultative body, told reporters after yesterday’s meeting that with the post-COVID-19 recovery of Macau’s tourism industry, the hotel sector’s electricity consumption has steadily been increasing year on year over the first six months of this year.
Vong, a businessman, also said that he expected the city’s electricity consumption to continue to record a year-on-year increase in the second half of this year.
Vong also noted that CEM electricity tariffs have not been raised for over 20 years, adding that Macau’s electricity fees have remained at a relatively low level compared to various major cities worldwide.
However, according to Vong, for the time being CEM does not plan to adjust its electricity tariffs.
Borrowing umbrellas & cables free of charge
Meanwhile, CEM representatives told yesterday’s meeting that the company has launched a new service that enables smartphone users to borrow umbrellas from its customer service centres, namely the one at the CEM headquarters on Estrada de D. Maria II in the peninsula, and the one on the ground floor of the Supreme Flower City residential estate in Taipa.
Smartphone users can borrow an umbrella free of charge after scanning a QR code and then filling in basic information on their devices.
In addition, the CEM representatives also told the meeting that smartphone users can now also borrow a cable free of charge at the customer service centres to charge their devices.
