The Legal Affairs Bureau (DSAJ) and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) co-organised the “Knowing the Macau Basic Law – Summer Stroll for Parents and Children” activity yesterday at the “Cape Star” integrated zone of the Leisure Area of Kun Iam Statue Waterfront in Nape, attracting many parents with their children to participate in the activity.

According to a DSAJ statement, the one-day activity took place near the Macau Science Museum in Nape and was aimed at entertaining the parents and children, while also encouraging them to familiarise themselves together with the nation’s Constitution and Macau’s Basic Law in “a spontaneous and fun” way, aiming to create an atmosphere of “knowing the law and abiding by it”.

In addition to singing and dancing performances by groups of local children and young people, prize-winning quizzes and speeches about legal matters, in order to promote the Macau Basic Law to parents and children alike in a “relaxed and interesting way”, booth games and handicraft workshops about puppet theatre between parents and children also took place during yesterday’s activities, “providing a new experience of law popularisation to the public,” the statement said.

When queuing up for a game booth with his child, a parent surnamed Wen told The Macau Post Daily yesterday afternoon that as a new immigrant in Macau, he does not know much about the Basic Law of Macau, so he expected his little boy to learn more about the city and the Basic Law through yesterday’s activity. Wen described the game booths as an “interesting” way for learning, which made it much easier for children to memorise the details.

Wen also said he was looking forward to similar activities to be held in the near future, and that he would participate in them with his child again.

Wen’s child, who is a primary school student, said that the questions set by the game booth were “very easy” for him, adding that he has learnt such information already at school.

Meanwhile, according to the statement, a photo exhibition on the Commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of the Enactment of the Basic Law of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) at the integrated zone will continue until September 1.
