The Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) said in a statement on Saturday that it has launched an investigation into the exact cause of a workplace accident where a worker was injured when he fell from a height when he was renovating the ceiling of a hotel lobby in Cotai earlier that day.
According to statements from the Fire Services Bureau (CB) and the Public Security Police (PSP) on Saturday, the worker is a 26-year-old local man. The accident occurred at around 3 p.m. on Saturday, after which he was rushed to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre for emergency treatment where he was hospitalised. He sustained head injuries, the statements said.
There were no further updates about his condition as of last night.
According to the CB and PSP statements, the worker is employed by an outsourced engineering company hired by the hotel.
Local Chinese-language media reports said that the worker failed to wear his safety harness “properly”.
The DSAL statement urged engineering companies to ensure that their workers always comply with safety guidelines.
