The 35th Macao International Music Festival (MIMF) is slated to take place from September 30 to October 30 under the theme “Melodic Reconnections”.

A press conference was held at The Londoner Macao yesterday to present the event’s programme details, with this year’s monthlong festival featuring 16 programmes, which will also have performers from various countries, and 14 outreach activities.

Japanese film score giant, composer, musical director, conductor and pianist Joe Hisaishi is set to appear at the festival for the first time to stage three programmes for the “Joe Hisaishi 360” series in collaboration with the Japan Century Symphony Orchestra and the Macao Orchestra.

Other performances include the festival’s grand opening performance “Opera in Two Acts by Gioachino Rossini The Barber of Seville”; “The Movies” by American a cappella group Naturally 7; AuRora by fado singer Gisela João; Songs from Other Places by American jazz singer Stacey Kent; and Night of Macao by the Macao Chinese Orchestra in collaboration with two “distinguished musicians”, under the baton of mainland Chinese conductor Liu Shun.

An IC statement about the festival did not identify the two “distinguished musicians”.

Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) President Leong Wai Man told reporters on the sidelines of yesterday’s press conference that this year’s budget for the music festival is 33 million patacas, a nine percent increase compared to that of 2019. The increase is due to having more large-scale music programmes this time.

Tickets for the festival can be bought through the Macau Ticketing Network outlets, as well as through phone and online bookings, from 10 a.m. this Sunday. More programme details can be found on www.icm.gov.mo/fimm, while ticketing details and the various discounts available are on www.macauticket.com.

Moreover, tickets for the programme “Joe Hisaishi 360” will be available through registration and lucky draws. Those interested can register on www.macauticket.com/JoeHisaishi360 from 3 p.m. on Sunday to 8 p.m. on September 6, with each person able to register for up to two tickets per programme.
