A construction worker fell from a building yesterday at a public housing construction site on Avenida de Venceslau de Morais and was conscious when taken to hospital, according to a statement from the Public Security Police (PSP).

The incident was reported at around 6 p.m., the statement said, adding that firefighters arrived at the scene and found a male casualty on the ground.

The injured person fell from the third to the first floor during work earlier yesterday and was later moved to the ground by his co-workers, the statement said.

The Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) said in a separate statement yesterday that if the incident is confirmed to have been a work-related accident, it would follow up on the work injury compensation.

According to the DSAL statement, the bureau is “highly” concerned about the worker’s injury, adding that all employers are required to conduct a safety assessment of their working environment and to set up construction safety procedures and supervise their employees to carry out work in accordance with their working safety procedures, in order to protect workers’ lives.

It was not disclosed how badly the worker was injured.
