A local man has been arrested for taking a knife to his residential building’s management office while attempting to file a complaint, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheong Heon Fan said at a press briefing yesterday.
The 69-year-old suspect surnamed Leong told the police that he’s jobless.
According to Cheong, the security guard of the management office on Rua Nova da Ilha Verde reported the case to police on Sunday night. Police later arrived at the scene and saw Leong, who was shirtless, brandishing a knife, and exhibiting signs of agitation. After multiple attempts, police officers finally managed to convince him to drop the weapon. Leong was then taken to a police station for questioning.
Leong told the police that earlier in the day, while cutting fruit at home, he became unable to tolerate the noise caused by his neighbours. As a result, he proceeded to the management office to file a complaint, still holding the knife he had been cutting fruit with.
Cheong noted that the confiscated knife measured approximately 31 centimetres in length, with a blade spanning 17.5 centimetres.
Leong has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a charge of possession of a prohibited weapon, according to Cheong.
