The Social Welfare Bureau (IAS) said in a statement last night that senior citizens were “very eager” to submit applications to rent a flat in the government’s high-rise residential building for them on Plot P in Areia Preta district as it received 300 applications yesterday, the first day of the application process.
According to the statement, 221 of the 300 applications were submitted online, while the other 79 were submitted in person.
There are 77 service points run by the bureau or private social service facilities where eligible seniors can file their applications or staff members can help them submit their applications online.
The high-rise will have a total of 1,815 studio-style units. Successful applicants in the first-phase application process, which covers 759 flats, will be offered a 20-percent discount on their rent during their first three-year lease, because of which the lowest rent for a flat will be 4,328 patacas per month.
Property management fees will be included in the rental fees. The tenants will, however, have to pay their utility bills.
The statement also noted that residents can visit the building’s show flats located on the third floor of the Mong Tak social housing estate, which is situated on the corner of Rua de Francisco Xavier Pereira and Avenida de Venceslau de Morais. The show flats open between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily except Mondays and public holidays.
All the flats have a gross floor area of 53.21 square metres.
Eligible seniors can submit their applications online at https://www.olderpersonsapart.ias.gov.mo, available in Chinese and Portuguese.
The government has said that successful applicants can expect to move into the flats in the fourth quarter of next year.
