“The Green Way Macao Forum: An Agenda for Green Diversification” was held at Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16 yesterday, marking the event’s third edition and the first time it has been hosted in Macau.
The first two editions of the forum were held in Hong Kong.
Yesterday’s event, which was co-hosted by the European Union Office to Hong Kong and Macau and the Macau European Chamber of Commerce (MECC), aimed to provide a platform to address sustainability-related questions and the role of the business community, the government and civil society. It included panel discussions on efforts towards green tourism, reducing food waste, and green finance, among others.
Moreover, a statement provided at the event yesterday noted that green diversification strategies were explored during the one-day forum with important stakeholders such as industry experts, business executives and government officials, as well as discussions on “ideas on how European businesses can contribute to this green process and ensure a sustainable and eco-friendly future for Macau”.
Secretary for Economy and Finance Lei Wai Nong and Head of Office of the European Union Office to Hong Kong and Macau Amb. Thomas Gnocchi were among the forum’s attendees.
In his opening speech, MECC President of the Board of Directors Rui Pedro Cunha said: “Cooperation and partnerships between governments, businesses and citizens are essential to help Macau develop into a greener city”.
Meanwhile, the MECC also held a reception to celebrate its 10th anniversary later that day.
