Fans can now step into the Wizarding World with Harry Potter: The Exhibition at The Londoner Macao starting today, marks its Asia Pacific Premiere.
The exhibition, which had a launch ceremony at the integrated resort yesterday, measures over 30,000 square feet (2,787 square metres) and features over 20 galleries, enabling exhibition-goers to visit and interact with areas and props based on the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films, as well as the Tony award-winning Broadway production “Harry Potter and The Cursed Child”.
The exhibition was created and developed by Imagine Exhibitions in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Themed Entertainment and EMC Presents. Imagine Exhibitions CEO and President Tom Zaller described the exhibition to reporters on the sidelines of yesterday’s event as being a great mix of a traditional museum setting where there are objects in cases such as original costumes that were worn by the characters, the rich environments that the film was set in, and the technology, highlighting things such as the use of RFID technology, used in the exhibition.
Radio-frequency identification (RFID) uses electromagnetic fields to automatically identify and track tags attached to objects.
Since premiering in Philadelphia over a year ago, more than 1.7 visitors have visited the exhibition, and it is currently on tour in New York and Barcelona. Asked if the exhibition in Macau includes exhibits that make if different from the other exhibitions, Zaller told The Macau Post Daily that all of the props and costumes are unique to the exhibition here, with nothing being a copy. Some of the used props displayed such as the wands and the Sword of Gryffindor had multiple props made, and so there are some similarities to what is exhibited in other cities, while others like the costumes that the characters Harry, Hermione and Ron use in the films may differ as not many of them were made.
Meanwhile, on bringing the exhibition to Macau, Julian Moon, head of EMEA and APAC Consumer Products for Warner Bros, Discovery Global Brands, Franchises and Experiences: “Macau is also known as the city of magic and entertainment. Harry Potter has delighted fans through magic and is one of the biggest entertainment brands in the world. We thought it was a great mix and a great connectivity to Macau”.
Asked by The Macau Post Daily if the exhibition can also appeal to those unfamiliar with the franchise, Moon said that fans of the Wizarding World will love it, while fans of movie-making will also love it due to the original props and storytelling around the moving-making, along with fans of exhibitions. “I’m also hopeful that it will help us engage new fans”, he said.
