The head of the Municipal Affairs Bureau’s (IAM) Vendor Division Lei Kuok Hong said yesterday that the bureau is currently conducting a comprehensive analysis and study of how the Taipa Flea Market is organised, adding that it will not rule out the possibility of adjusting the number and location of stalls, the types of products as well as the method of selecting vendors,
Lei made the remarks yesterday while talking to reporters on the sidelines of a lucky draw for vendors for this year’s first phase of the Taipa Flea Market, at the Patane Municipal Market’s Activity Centre, adding that the bureau will make an announcement about the adjustment in due course.
The first phase of this year’s Taipa Flea Market will take place between January 21 and June 16, every Sunday and public holiday in Largo dos Bombeiros (“Firemen’s Square”) in Taipa, according to Lei.
Lei noted that there will be 18 booths at the market and there were 47 bidders, adding that among them, priority has been given to four vendors with a higher attendance rate the last time they participated, while 43 bidders applied for the remaining 14 stalls. Two of the bidders were deemed ineligible.
A local female resident surnamed Lam, one of the selected bidders, said the number of applicants this time was average. Lam also said she hoped that all the stalls would operate every time to enhance the atmosphere of the area while avoiding wastage of resources, as she believed that there would be a high flow of visitors to the district.
