The Cultural Development Fund (FDC) announced in a statement on Monday that its two new schemes to support the launch of film and TV productions featuring Macau are now accepting applications until November 29, with subsidies of up to 2 million patacas.

According to the statement, the quotas for the subsidy are unlimited until the budgets of the relevant funding schemes are used up, at which point the application period would close ahead of time and the Cultural Development Fund would then announce the successful applicants on its website.

The two funding schemes – namely the “Subsidy Programme for the Promotion and Distribution of Cinematographic and Television Works with Elements of Macau” and the “Subsidy Programme for Cinematographic and Television Filming in Macau” – cover various genres including TV dramas, films, documentaries, variety shows, music videos and commercials, the statement said, adding that animated works are not eligible for the subsidy.

In the statement, the fund said that the “Subsidy Programme for the Promotion and Distribution of Cinematographic and Television Works with Elements of Macau” accepts applications both from local and overseas film producers who own or have obtained copyright licences for film or television productions that are ready for screening. The subsidy is capped at 80 percent of the estimated expenditure for the promotion and distribution of the project, with a ceiling of 250,000 patacas.

The statement added that this scheme aims to support the promotion and distribution of film and TV productions that contain Macau features, such as using the special administrative region as the filming location, or showcasing its cuisine, cityscape, history, culture, and folklore.

Meanwhile, the “Subsidy Programme for Cinematographic and Television Filming in Macau” scheme aims to attract overseas film crews to film in Macau, thus promoting the city’s image to the outside world and providing more opportunities for local film and TV enterprises to participate in the production of overseas film and TV productions, according to the statement.

The statement said that this funding scheme accepts overseas film and television crews that have not filmed in Macau before and will be filming in Macau for at least three days. Applications for funding must be submitted by the owners of commercial enterprises that are the respective production units in Macau.

The length of the final version of the film and the duration of the Macau scenes in the film must comply with the minimum time stipulated in the respective agreements signed with the FDC, according to the statement, which added that the subsidy will be capped at 40 percent of the estimated expenditure for the filming and location work in Macau, with a ceiling of two million patacas.

The statement further announced that an information session about the two subsidy schemes is slated for March 4, at 3 p.m. on the 7th floor of Cheng Feng Commercial Centre on Alameda Dr Carlos d’Assumpção.
