A newly-built sewer pipe with a “big diameter” directly connecting two sewage pumping stations next to the UNESCO Centre of Macau building in Nape with the Macau Peninsula Wastewater Treatment Plant in Areia Preta district has come into operation, the Public Works Bureau (DSOP) has announced.
According to a DSOP statement on Monday, the sewer pipe with a two-metre diameter is 2.6 kilometres long, running along Avenida da Amizade.
The statement said that the operation of the new sewer pipe has raised the capacity of the city’s sewerage network to transport wastewater.
According to the statement, the new big-diameter sewer pipe has raised the sewage transport capacity by 60 percent compared to the original pipe.
Meanwhile, the government has received eight bids for a public tender for the design, construction and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant on the man-made island where the Macau border checkpoint of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HZMB) is located, the Environmental Protection Bureau (DSPA) announced in a statement last night.
The eight bids were unsealed by DSPA officials yesterday.
The quotations proposed by the eight bidders range from 6.1 billion to 8.2 billion patacas, according to the statement.
After the winner completes construction, it will run the plant for 10 years.
