A man from the mainland previously involved in loan sharking in Macau has been arrested for illegal entry, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheong Heon Fan said during a regular press conference yesterday.
According to Cheong, the Public Security Police in an ongoing investigation into an illegal immigration case discovered an illegal immigrant from the mainland staying at a Cotai hotel. The police apprehended the man, surnamed Yeh.
Leong noted that Yeh had been banned from entering Macau for five years due to his involvement in loan sharking. In order to continue his illicit activities, he paid 38,000 yuan (43,000 patacas) to be smuggled into Macau by boat from the mainland last month.
Cheong noted that Yeh had paid 1,000 yuan to a man through a social media platform to buy 12 forged stay permits, which he used for booking local hotel guestrooms.
Cheong added that a woman named Feng, who was sharing the hotel room with Yeh, was arrested for smuggling counterfeit stay permits into Macau for individuals seeking extended stays. Feng confessed to the police that she had received 500 yuan from an individual in the mainland to carry out the task.
Yeh and Feng have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing charges of document forgery, while Yeh also faces an illegal entry charge, Cheong noted.
