Light Up Macao 2023 concluded its 86-day run on February 25, attracting a total of 7.78 million viewers throughout the three-month-long event, according to a statement by the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) on Saturday.

The statement noted that the statistics on the number of visitors to the different districts with installations and mapping shows during the period were compiled by MGTO through mobile data provided by local telecommunication companies.

Light Up Macao, which started on December 2 last year, was themed Dazzling Wonderland, and was co-organised with different government entities and in collaboration with Macau’s six integrated resort (IR) operators (SJM, Sands, Galaxy, Melco, Wynn, MGM) the statement said. The event spanned major festivities, and was set up in 34 locations across seven areas: city centre, Praia do Manduco district, Nam Van district, Nape, Northern district, Taipa, and Coloane.

The statement added that nearly 40,000 souvenirs were given out on site during the event, while around 1,500 people collected all the participation stamps from the seven areas and joined the grand lucky draw. Meanwhile, over 10,000 people played the “Explore the Wonderland” online game, while the “Light up Macao 2023” interactive game on MGTO’s WeChat MiniProgramme engaged nearly 520,000 participants, with over 54,000 people taking part in the lucky draw, according to the statement.

The three-month-long event comprised 36 light installations, 20 interactive installations and 3 mapping show venues, the statement said. MGTO, in collaboration with the six IRs, invited “world-renowned” artists and design teams to create light and interactive installations under seven subthemes during the event.

Moreover, the statement noted that projection teams from Macau and the two UNESCO Creative Cities of Design – Wuhan and Seoul created their own themed shows, presenting projection mapping shows in the peninsula, Taipa and Coloane. Outreach activities were also held throughout the event.
