“After the Romance” is set to take place at the Macau Cultural Centre’s (CCM) Grand Auditorium on Friday, presenting the works of 20th century composers Sergei Rachmaninoff* (1873-1943) and Samuel Barber** (1910-1981), according to a recent statement from the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC).
The event, which starts at 8 p.m., is one of the concerts of the Macao Orchestra 2023-24 Season, the statement noted, and will be held under the baton of Israeli musician and conductor Yoel Levi. The concert will also feature rising Japanese-American violinist Mayumi Kanagawa, the statement said.
The statement said that Levi and the orchestra will perform Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No.2, music aficionados’ “much loved” piece.
Moreover, Barber’s Overture to “The School of Scandal” and Violin Concerto will be performed in collaboration with Kanagawa, the statement said, adding that both pieces are expected to present “a captivating display of virtuosity”.
The concert is organised by the bureau in conjunction with the Macao Orchestra Company, Limited and Macau’s six integrated resort (IR) operators. Tickets are now on sale, with prices ranging from 150 patacas to 300 patacas, and can be bought at the Macau Ticketing Network.
