A shoplifter from the mainland who stole daily necessities as well as shirts and trousers worth more than 13,000 patacas from four shops at a resort in Cotai was arrested at the local airport when he was about to leave Macau, a Public Security Police (PSP) spokesperson said at a regular press conference on Friday.
According to the spokesperson, the suspect in his forties originally intended to leave the city by air but was unable to do so due to his original flight’s cancellation.
The spokesperson said that the Public Security Police had recently received a report from a staff member of a resort in Cotai that clothing articles worth more than 1,000 patacas were stolen by a man, adding that a PSP investigation showed that the male suspect was also involved in three other shoplifting cases, stealing more than 70 items of clothing in total.
The spokesperson said that PSP officers arrested the suspect at the airport and recovered some of the stolen goods from his backpack.
The suspect has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP).
The mainland man suspected of stealing valuables from four clothing shops at a resort in Cotai is escorted by police officers to a police station in Taipa.
