The 10-day “International Cities of Gastronomy Fest, Macao” is set to take place from June 14 to 23 at Macau Fisherman’s Wharf, according to a press conference held by the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) on Friday.
MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes told the press conference that the culinary festival will welcome representatives from 30 Creative Cities of Gastronomy in Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania, the highest number of participating cities over the years. MGTO is dedicated to turning the event “tourism + gastronomy” event into a new platform for the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, Senna Fernandes said.
The event’s three highlights are the “International Gastronomy Promenade”, “City of Gastronomy Showcase” and “International Gastronomy Forum, Macao”.
The International Gastronomy Promenade, the statement said, will be held in the Roman Amphitheatre Square and Legend Boulevard from 3:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. throughout the period, focusing on Asian gastronomy and will feature 100 food booths.
The statement added that delicacies will be presented by catering businesses from six Chinese Creative Cities of Gastronomy, namely Chaozhou, Chengdu, Huai’an, Macau, Shunde and Yangzhou, and three Asian Creative Cities of Gastronomy, which are; Iloilo City in the Philippines, Kuching in Malaysia, and Thailand’s Phuket.
Moreover, seating for around 700 will be set up, along with a game zone and a seaside bar. Performances will also be held, while 54 local catering businesses will showcase Cantonese, Portuguese and Southeast-Asian snacks, among others, the statement noted.
At the “City of Gastronomy Showcase”, chefs from 27 Creative Cities of Gastronomy from around the world, including Macau, will present their skills in 62 culinary showcase sessions on the Main Stage at Legend Boulevard, the statement said, while there will also be sampling sessions.
The statement added that the “International Gastronomy Forum, Macao”, which was hosted by MGTO in 2016, 2018 and 2019, will be one of the major highlights, being the first since the COVID-19 pandemic. It is themed “Holistic Gastronomy: Eat well, live well”.
The statement said that the event will feature discussions on “the concerted development between the fields of gastronomy and wellness”, with insights into food culture aiming to “steer gastronomic development towards a more sustainable future”.
