A man from the mainland has been arrested for robbing a male illegal currency exchange dealer in a hotel guestroom, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Lei Chi Hou said at a regular press conference yesterday.

The 53-year-old suspect surnamed Jiang told the police that he’s a businessman. The victim is a mainlander. They had struck currency exchange deals before

According to Lei, late on May 12 the victim again engaged in a currency exchange deal with Jiang in his hotel room in Cotai. During the meeting, Jiang suddenly punched the victim in the head and pointed a corkscrew to his neck, robbing him of HK$60,000 in cash and HK$40,000 in casino chips.

The victim fled the scene and reported the case to the police. He sustained injuries to his neck and head. Jiang and his female accomplice left Macau through the Qingmao checkpoint later that day.

Jiang was arrested when he re-entered Macau through the HK-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge checkpoint on Saturday. Police found HK$30,000 in cash and HK$400 in casino chips on him. He refused to cooperate.
