A non-resident worker (NRW) from India has been arrested for stealing a MACAU Pass he found on the street and spending 510 patacas with it, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Kong Chi Ian said in a regular press conference yesterday.
The suspect surnamed Asokan is in his thirties who works as a manager.
According to Kong, a male resident reported to the police in April that a MACAU Pass belonging to his family member had been lost. Subsequently, the police investigation revealed that the card had been used for several purchases, amounting to a total of 510 patacas.
In response, PSP officers reviewed the CCTV footage from locations where the card had been utilised and identified the suspect as Asokan, who was apprehended in Taipa on Saturday.
Under questioning, the suspect confessed to stealing the card, spending all the money on it and then discarding it.
Asokan has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft-by-finding charge, according to Kong.
