Local comic artist and illustrator Aya Lei (李絢) is showcasing her drawings in an exhibition entitled “Unique-Verse” at the Creative Macau gallery, which is on until August 17.
A self-taught artist, Lei’s exhibition features works of ink on paper as well as mixed media. Moreover, some of the works on display were created by merging them with her daughter’s drawings, showcasing “interesting possibilities”, according to a statement provided by the gallery, with Lei noting that this “really inspires her creations”.
Visitors to the free-admission gallery may also find copies of comic books by Lei for sale. These include “A book of DREAMs” and “A Song of Roaring Lion”, which were published in 2015 and 2019 respectively. The artist has published five comics in total.
With a love for drawing, the statement said that the artist has had several exhibitions in recent years such as “Route E Terra, Illustration Collection by Aya Lei” in 2020 and “Illusion of Dream - Manga* Exhibition of Aya Lei” in 2019. The Creative Macau website adds that she is active in the local, Hong Kong, mainland and Taiwan art scenes.
The gallery, which is located on the ground floor of the Macau Cultural Centre (CCM), is open from Mondays to Saturdays from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. For more details, visit www.creativemacau.org.mo
