A man from the mainland has been arrested for robbing a female illegal currency exchange dealer in a hotel guestroom of HK$400,000 by threatening her with a pair of scissors, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chong Kam Leong said at a special press conference yesterday.
The 52-year-old suspect surnamed Chen told the police that he’s jobless. The victim, also from the mainland, had conducted transactions amounting to HK$500,000 with Chen before.
On Sunday the victim once again struck a currency exchange deal with Chen in her hotel room in Nape. During the meeting, Xie suddenly held a pair of scissors to her neck and robbed her of casino chips worth HK$250,000, as well as HK$150,000 in cash, after which Chen bound her with duct tape.
Following the incident, Chen immediately went to the casino to gamble, while the victim managed to free herself half an hour later and sought help from the police.
Later that day, Chen gave himself up to the police and claimed that he had gambled away all the loot.
Chen was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday, facing robbery, possession of a prohibited weapon and false imprisonment charges.
