The sixth edition of !OUTLOUD - International Street Art Festival hosted by the Macau Old District Promotion Association and !Outloud team will present its opening ceremony today from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Praça Ponte e Horta (司打口), with graffiti artists from around the world creating artwork there through Sunday, the team has said in a recent statement.
Outloud is Cantonese slang, which refers to “making a name for oneself” and is typically associated with unwavering self-confidence and the bold declaration of one’s status to the world.
According to the statement, the aim of the festival is to promote cultural exchanges through street art, foster community art development, enhance the artistic atmosphere in the neighbourhood, and breathe energy into the community.
Themed “City Pop”, this year’s festival combines aspects of pop music, pop art and street culture into a large-scale art event, during which well-known graffiti artists from Japan and South Korea will create live-painting and top street dance judges from Japan and South Korea will perform. The event will also feature a charitable “dance battle”.
According to the statement, the festival will feature creative works on the exterior walls of Hotel S, extending to the surrounding area, and the total area of the walls to be covered in graffiti will exceed 1,000 square metres once completed.
The statement said that the organisers chose locations with historical significance “and a story behind”, injecting new energy through graffiti art and street dance, music creation and culture into these areas, the statement said.
The event is slated to be held through Sunday. To look for more information, one can visit: facebook.com/Outloudmacau.
