At the Old House Gallery located along Rua de São Paulo (大三巴街), four local artists are showcasing nearly 40 works at a recently launched joint exhibition.

Entitled “Inheritance under the Ruins of St. Paul’s: An Immersive Experience of Song Presence – Calligraphy and Paintings joint Exhibition by Mok Hei Sai, Lei Ka Hon, Im Hok Lon, and Leong Kit Man”, the exhibition presents the works of four like-minded artists until February 9, with a statement displayed at the art space noting that they each show what they specialise in or excel at.

Entering the art space and making one’s way to the upper floor where the works are mainly showcased, exhibitiongoers will find Song Dynasty-style calligraphy works and paintings, all mainly framed in the Song-style.

Among the works on display, a statement provided by the organisers noted that the works comprise shou jin ti (“Slender Gold Script”) by local poet and calligrapher Mok, while artist Lei is showcasing seal script and running script calligraphy inspired by ancient stone and bronze inscriptions.

Moreover, calligraphy, painting and seal carvings are being presented by Im, while exhibition curator Leong is presenting gongbi (“meticulous”) silk paintings.

The joint exhibition hopes to convey “ancient, refined, elegant and leisure Song-style aesthetics through the classic Oriental Song-style calligraphy and paintings. In a blend of ancient and modern, it allows visitors to feel and experience the cultural inheritance under Macau’s Ruins of St. Paul’s”, according to the statement displayed at the gallery.

One can visit the exhibition daily from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
