The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) launched a theme song yesterday to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the establishment of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) at the Macau Cultural Centre (CCM).
The song is named “傳源”, which means “passing on the origin”, and is officially translated as “Herança e Origem” (“Heritage and Origin”) in the Portuguese language, is a Cantonese-Mandarin bilingual song.
The event was attended by Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) President Deland Leong Wai Man, Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in MSAR Publicity and Culture Department Deputy Director Bai Bing, Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS) Director Inês Chan Lou, and Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Destination Marketing Department chief Betty Fok Wai Lan.
According to Leong, the song composed by the Macau Music Industry Association, features music composed by Pun Kuan Pou and lyrics by Long Sai Kit, and is performed by a variety of local artists and bands, including Pang Weng Sam, Sou Io Kuong, Long Sai Kit, among others.
Leong emphasised the bureau’s commitment to implementing the nation’s vision for Macau, striving to build a platform for cultural exchanges that prioritises Chinese culture while embracing diverse cultural coexistence.
Leong also expressed her hope that the song could convey the government’s aspirations and vision for future development, supported by the whole nation.
According to Leong, the theme song combines traditional Chinese-style melodies with distinctive elements of Macau, centred around the theme of a “shared root.” The song emphasises the unity and cohesion of the nation while showcasing Macau’s historical and future development alongside the motherland.
Primarily sung in Cantonese, the song also includes the Mandarin phrase “傳承同一夢,源起同一家 (inherit the same dream, originating from the same family),” which reinforces the steadfast belief in the continuity and mutual support of the Chinese nation, Leong said.
The music video for the song features iconic landmarks and historical sites in Macau, as well as elements from various local festivals, aiming to provide a visual and auditory feast that highlights Macau’s cultural richness, Leong explained.
Leong said that the launch of the theme song not only symbolises Macau’s cultural confidence but also showcases the achievements of the region blossoming under the support of the motherland, and also serves as “an inspiration for every Macau resident” to work together for a brighter future.
