A local man in his sixties banged on the glass entrance door of a service centre for senior citizens with a hammer last week, causing cracks to the glass, as he was unhappy that his father had donated money to the centre, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Wong Wai Chon said during a regular press conference yesterday.
The man surnamed Chan told the police that he is unemployed.
The senior citizens’ service centre is located on the ground floor of a building on Rua da Rosa (連興街), a short alley near Luís de Camões Garden (白鴿巢公園).
According to Wong, Chan went to the service centre on Wednesday last week, and kept banging on its entrance door with the hammer, as he was “dissatisfied” that his father had recently donated money to the centre. The head of the hammer eventually broke off the handle after he had banged on the door repeatedly.
Centre staff reported the case to the police, after, however, Chan stayed there and kept arguing with the staff. PSP officers later arrested him at the scene, Wong said.
According to Wong, Chan did not tell the police how much and why his father had donated money to the centre.
The centre told the police that repairs to the damaged door were estimated to cost 10,000 patacas.
Chan has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing charges of property damage and unlawful possession of a weapon.
