The nation’s top pianist Lang Lang performed with the Macao Orchestra (OM) under the baton of its principal conductor Lio Kuok Man at the Galaxy International Convention Centre on Sunday.
The show attracted a full house. The show commenced with Dmitri Shostakovich’s Festive Overture, after which Lang Lang took centre stage to perform Frédéric Chopin’s 12 Mazurkas, a collection of piano works that capture the spirit of Polish folk music and dance.
The highlight of the evening was the performance of Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, one of the Russian composer’s most celebrated and beloved works.
As the concert drew to a close, Lang Lang treated the enthusiastic audience to an encore performance of a rearranged version of the traditional Chinese folk song, “Jasmine Flower” (茉莉花).
