The Sports Bureau (ID) and Automobile General Association of Macao-China (AAMC) held yesterday their annual Chinese New Year (CNY) motorcycle and classic car parade, with 22 classic cars and 50 motorbikes setting off from the Macau Grand Prix (MPG) Building in Zape at 2 p.m., crossing Sai Van Bridge to various points in Taipa, Cotai and Coloane, including Estrada do Istmo, before arriving via Friendship Bridge at the square in front of the Macau Science Museum in Nape for public display.
AAMC Vice President Roberto Carlos Osório told reporters on the sidelines of the parade that the event had been well received and that the inclusion of a new vintage car attraction for the first time had been welcomed by classic car owners, adding that the cars were “historic and rare”, well-maintained and worthy of public appreciation.
Osório also said that he was satisfied with the effectiveness of this year’s event, adding he expected to hold such a parade again next year.
One of the participants was José Tavares, the former president of the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM), who expressed his satisfaction with the event, saying that it was an opportunity for the public to learn more about the charms of motorcycling, and also a chance for motorists to interact and get to know each other.
Speaking to reporters outside the Macau Science Centre, Tavares said that the whole parade lasted for less than half an hour: “The trip was quite short”, adding he hoped that the government would support and approve the extension of the event to Hengqin in the future.
