Hotel guests rise 15 pct in January

Macau’s 107 hotels and guesthouses welcomed 1.04 million guests in January, a year-on-year growth of 15.6 percent, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced yesterday.

Chinese New Year fell on January 28 this year.

Guests from the mainland (679,000), South Korea (38,000) and Hong Kong (127,000) recorded double-digit growth, up by 17.1 percent, 35.9 percent and 12.9 percent respectively. The number of Taiwan guests dropped 1.3 percent to 40,000.

Tourists from the three Chinese regions accounted for 81.3 percent of all guests.
